On the occasion of Paris Design Week, Pierre Renart designed and created an original piece presented in the heart of the Hôtel de la Marine in the Cour de l’Intendant.
Named “Escale”, this work, inspired by the theme of travel and daydreams, was conceived as an enveloping seat that invites contemplation and dialogue with Hugh Dutton’s glass roof overlooking the Cour de l’Intendant.
Formed by 7 independent slats, Escale is reminiscent of Pierre Renart’s Fusion collection, in which converging wooden slats fuse together to form a whole echoing the interweaving shapes of the “diamond” glass roof.
As chair carpentry formed the basis of Pierre Renart’s training at the École Boulle, this project represents both a reconnection to his training and an innovation.
Indeed, for the first time, Pierre Renart is working with hornbeam, a material that gives the work a certain suppleness and lightness reminiscent of the appearance and natural color of ropes, normally used to form the seat of hammocks.
This sculptural installation of exceptional dimensions, 4 meters wide by 1 meter high and 70 cm deep, offers viewers a renewed perspective on the site, and establishes a new dialogue between the work and the space.
