Corset-maker and Embroiderer

Hubert Barrère is the first and only artist invited by maison parisienne at the prestigious auction house Artcurial. He is an accomplished designer, embroiderer, corset-maker and sculptor.

As a graduate of l’École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, Hubert Barrère has had a diverse career working for Thierry Mugler and Brodeur Vermont between 1990 and 1994, before becoming the artistic director for Ghislain Vicaire. Passionate about corsetry, he launches his first collection in 1995 and is awarded the Paris Grand Prize of Fashion Creativity. As the artistic director of Brodeur Hurel from 1997 to 2011, he collaborated with some of the most exclusive brands of haute-couture such as Chanel, Givenchy or Valentino.

He is especially appreciated in China where since 2003, he has regularly been invited to showcase works during Fashion Week. In 2008, he becomes the first man elected president of the Fashion Group Paris, receiving the same year the “Talent de l’Audace” prize by the Centre du Luxe et de la Création in Paris. In 2011 he became the artistic director of the Maison Lesage, succeeding François Lesage. He is also the co-author of the book “Le Corset” published in 2011. He has been collaborating with the artist Claudine Drai since 2015, creating the costumes for a dance performance at the Fondation Maeght and at the 57th Venice Biennial in 2017. In 2018, he is commissioned by Nicolas Le Riche to create the costumes for the ballet “B comme…”.
