” Les Aliénés ” – Mobilier National

maison parisienne is pleased to announce that the Mobilier National will host, from June 10th to 21st, 2022, three of our artists for the unprecedented exhibition “Les Aliénés” which stages the forgotten furniture in the institution’s reserves. Thirty-four contemporary artists have been selected to reinterpret and transform the furniture of the former Garde-Meuble Royal (furniture storage).

Liane and Météorite, two linen sculptures imagined by Simone Pheulpin, use as their support the leg and seating of a pair of old Thonet chairs, iconic model of French bistro chairs and archetype of modernity that seduced the artist with its timeless forms.

Known for her work on paper, Coralie Laverdet has this time chosen to work with wood. Her chest of drawers in walnut and marble from the Empire period, taken from the rooms of the Élysée Palace, is now entitled Erosion. Through her sculpture, which is both sensual and sober, Coralie Laverdet refers to all erosions, both coastal and stylistic.

As regards of Julien Vermeulen, he wishes to perpetuate the tradition of featherworkers while inventing new uses and outlets. The Eden console evokes the Lost Paradise. Its panel features a plant wall of green, yellow and white feathers through which a snake of black feathers slides. Eden, with its plant panel, refers to the green walls we find in today’s cities, as a symbol of new times.
