Maison Parisienne is pleased to present the official film of the retrospective exhibition “Simone Pheulpin, time bender.” Directed by Anna-Claria Ostasenko Bogdanoff for the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, this touching tribute to Simone Pheulpin is a poetic throw-back to the show that took place last winter, from December 7th, 2021 to January 16th, 2022.
A word from Anna-Claria Ostasenko Bogdanoff
“To film Simone Pheulpin is to enter an alternative reality in which time can only be measured in scraps of off-white fabric. Seating at her worktable, Simone folds, rolls and piles up by the light of begone hours. Just like the wind eroding stone, Simone shapes works on which time leaves its mark. With gestures repeated ad infinitum, her hands transform fabric into fossilized stone, bark or coral. In between the lines of cotton, the same regularity, the same perseverance, the same harmony as in nature can be read. Faced with these sculptures made of folds, we can only feel, as when faced with the geometric perfection of a shell, the same force that transcends yet embraces us.”
Anna-Claria Ostasenko Bogdanoff has been completing a 12-month-long art residency at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris since September 16th, 2021. Throughout her films, she revisits the museum’s life and exhibitions, offering her unique perspective.
