Silas Chermant graduated from the École Boulle with a DSAA in Object Design for Contemporary Manufacture, with honours, and aspires to use his multidisciplinary skills and determination to address current environmental and social issues.
This is why materials are the starting point for his artistic approach. Silas Chermant works with slate from the Pyrenees, transcending its forms and uses, while promoting a little-known French material.
The Labasso Collection is a collection of top-of-the-range lighting fixtures in Pyrenean slate designed by Silas Chermant. The project is designed to breathe new life into French slate by creating unique pieces that combine traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design. Each lighting fixture is made from carefully selected slate, with a low carbon footprint and high durability. Experience and the exchange of know-how upstream are fundamental to the creation of this collection. Inspired by slate quarry landscapes and local know-how, Labasso highlights the timeless beauty of slate and seeks to diversify its applications in contemporary design.
