Hervé Wahlen

Sculptor and Coppersmith

Hervé Wahlen is a copper-ware sculptor who has been practicing his specialty since the 1980s. He has revived the traditional forms and techniques of coppersmithing, working in particular with the historical tools of the famous René-Gabriel Lacroix.

Hervé Wahlen’s sculptures form a display of supple, pure, almost organic lines. They are enhanced by the light, made possible by the development of a very subtle patina. The light emanating from Hervé Wahlen’s works is obtained thanks to the discontinuity of the surface of his creations and the use of gold leaf. They are also polished with wax for a voluptuous finish.

Hervé Wahlen collaborated with Peruvian artist Fabian Sanchez to create a monumental work with four hands for the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. He has exhibited extensively in France, Switzerland, the United States and the United Kingdom and was awarded the Fondation de la Vocation de Paris prize in 1984.

His sculptures are part of many prestigious collections- both private, such as Bill Gates, Paloma Picasso and Peter Marino, and public, such as the DRAC Ile-de-France.

In 2021, the Torsion Moongold lamp entered the collections of the Mobilier National.
